are interested in signing Arsenal
striker Alexandre Lacazette
Diego Simeone has started the process of replacing star man Antoine Griezmann
, with the Frenchman moving ever closer to finally joining Barcelona.
Griezmann announced this week that he would be leaving Atletico in the coming months and, following their heavy interest last year, Barcelona remain favourites to secure his signature.
His exit will leave a significant hole in Atletico's front line and Simeone has identified Lacazette as the man to replace his fellow countryman.
French newspaper Le 10 Sport
are reporting that the Spanish giants have 'made initial contact' with Arsenal over a potential move.
The Gunners will be desperate to keep hold of Lacazette and the partnership he has formed with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates Stadium.
The 27-year-old netted 13 times in the Premier League this season, as well as chipping in with eight assists, and played a crucial part in them reaching the Europa League final.
Barcelona had been linked with Lacazette as well and he responded to their interest by admitting he was 'flattered' last week.
