Much like SUVS, trucks and other larger vehicles, and unlike smaller sedans and coupes, the humble-yet-useful station wagon has been enjoying a surge in popularity in North America.
According to stats gathered by Edmunds.com
and published by
, 2018 saw a 29 percent increase in U.S. wagon sales compared to five years earlier.
And over at Audi, this news has not fallen on deaf ears.
Citing an 'inside source at Audi' who allegedly spoke to two Audi USA Execs,
is claiming the RS6 Avant and A6 will be available in the U.S. market (and, by extension, the Canadian market, logically) as early as 2020.
Should the rumours be accurate – and we're not alone in hoping they are – the two vehicles which for the previous two generations have been reserved exclusively for drivers overseas and not been made available in North America will compete directly with the
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon
in the luxury sport-ute category.
They will join the upcoming next-gen Audi RS7, and potentially share its powertrain, too, which is expected to be a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 pumping out over 650 hp; or a hybrid system making some 700 hp.
We've reached out to Audi Canada to confirm the rumours, including whether the two five-door beauties will be available north of the 49th parallel, and will update here ASAP.
