Viewers could hardly believe their eyes as they watched Sunderland
take the lead in the most bizarre way possible in Sunday's League One play-off final against Charlton.
The game was only five minutes old when defender Naby Sarr attempted to play a routine back-pass to goalkeeper Dillon Phillips.
However, the Charlton stopper took his eye of the ball, allowing it to go under his foot and trickle into the net.
Phillips understandably looked devastated while fans quickly took to social media to ridicule the incident.
Even Charlton's own Twitter account got involved, posting: 'WTF just happened?'
One supporter also said 'that own goal by Charlton might actually be the worst thing I've ever seen in my life' while another described it as one of 'the all time funniest own goals'.
Phillips was the butt of most of the jokes, one user even renaming him 'Villain Phillips'.
