According to Autocar , the vehicles will be the first electrified models Subaru will bring to the European market. Although the models are unspecified, we can guess one will be the same Forester Advance Sport Concept from Tokyo, which featured STI tuning and an e-Boxer powertrain. The other model is yet to be determined.
The Japanese brand refers to the system as “hybrid, the Subaru way,” which could mean it's only going to release two cars for the Japanese market, and then take forever to bring them over to North America, as it's done with its previous hybrids.
Currently, Subaru only has one hybrid model in the form of the Crosstrek (called the XV in Europe and Japan). That car featured a 2.0-litre boxer engine with 148 horsepower, with a 14-horsepower electric motor. In Canada, we have the Crosstrek PHEV, which was launched only last year. The Forester STI e-Boxer offers just 156 horsepower and 187 lb.-ft. of torque, so it's not exactly a speed demon. What it is, however, is a great way for Subaru to stay on-brand, and bring a vehicle with better-than-good fuel economy and reduced emissions to market for a reasonable price.
